Home > About Us  > School Policy > Behaviour

At Harrington Hill, we believe that good behaviour is a key foundation of good education. Our school plays a vital part in promoting the social development of our children.

At Harrington Hill, we foster positive relationships and emotional wellbeing through the promotion of three simple rules linked to our school values.  Everyone is expected to be:

We have high expectations for behaviour and support the children to develop high standards for themselves.  These expectations are commonly understood and applied with consistency and fairness.

In the school’s most recent Ofsted report, the children’s positive behaviour and conduct was recognised as a strength of the school with Behaviour and Attitudes graded as ‘Outstanding’.

“Leaders have high expectations of pupils’ academic work and demand excellent behaviour from all pupils. Pupils respond positively to these high expectations. All staff work together closely to support pupils to flourish here. Pupils are kept safe. Staff teach pupils how to behave, and they model the kindness that they expect from pupils.” Ofsted report, November 2023

As part of the school’s consistent approach, a strong emphasis is placed on developing a positive attitude to learning.

Our learning behaviours are therefore central to all teaching at Harrington Hill.  They are promoted by teachers and referred to in lessons in order to help children understand how they learn best. To help children understand these learning behaviours and how they can show them throughout the school day, we appointed five learning behaviour superheroes!

Our 5 key learning behaviours are:

  • Active Listening
  • Teamwork
  • Independence
  • Resilience
  • Good Talk

Children use these learning behaviours to develop useful strategies to support their learning.

Playground superheroes

“Through playground superhero role models, such as ‘Forgiving Fabio’, the school makes clear to pupils of all ages how to act intelligently in social situations” Ofsted report 2023

At Harrington Hill, we recognise that playtimes and lunchtimes are a key part of the school day. Outdoor play at school helps develop healthy, curious and active children, providing invaluable opportunities for the children to connect and interact with one another.  Children are equipped with strategies to support positive play and regularly reminded of the importance of being ‘ready’, ‘respectful’ and ‘safe’.  The school council introduced the school to four playground superheroes that promote the values of kindness, sharing, respect and forgiveness – values that the children agreed were key to making playtimes successful.

The ethos of the school includes clear values which matter within the school:

  • Community
  • Respect
  • Excellence
  • Equality
  • Kindness

It is our aim at Harrington Hill to assist children to grow up with a clear view of what is right and wrong. When children become independent, self-disciplined and responsible adults, it benefits society as a whole. Teachers and parents have a responsibility in setting a good example.
