The teaching of music at Harrington Hill is based upon the fact that it is a creative art that should be enjoyed! Children have the opportunity to enjoy musical experiences through listening, singing, movement and dance and by playing tuned and un-tuned percussion.

Our Violin Teacher, Naomi, teaches children on a Tuesday, and on a Friday, Sean from Rock Steady comes to teach children how to play different band instruments and become a Rockstar! Our Year 3-5 School Choir meets with Miss Salisbury every Thursday, and is going from strength to strength.

Our Christmas Assembly was a fantastic showcase of the brilliant music that is happening across the school.

Through weekly music lessons in class, children develop their skills to:

  • perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians
  • learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
  • understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notation
